PPA Puts Risk of Stroke in Your Medicine ChestAnyone taking over-the-counter cold remedies or diet pills containing PPA (Phenylpropanolamine) is severely at risk and should contact a doctor immediately. A landmark Yale University study of female patients at 43 hospitals found that women aged 18-49 who had taken cold remedies or appetite suppressants with PPA were 16 times more at risk to suffer a hemorrhagic stroke. There was no reason to believe that men face a lower risk. Further, among men and women taking a cough or cold or flu remedy containing PPA for the first time, the risk of a stroke was three times higher than normal. Even more important, potentially deadly "dormant doses" of PPA are still lurking in seemingly innocent cold remedies and diet pills now in medicine cabinets of homes across America. Since HermanGerel is in the forefront of PPA litigation, we can help you or someone you know who has suffered the effects of PPA. Though the Food and Drug Administration has only 51 confirmed reports of hemorrhagic stroke, analysis based upon the Yale Study now projects that 200-500 strokes occurred each year in women age 18-49 due to PPA in the 53 years the drug has been available. At a minimum, that adds up to over 10,000 hemorrhagic strokes due to PPA in the past half-century. See latest updates on the PPA in news items. |
