Michelle A. Parfitt has concentrated her practice in the areas of products liability, and medical malpractice litigation.
A senior partner at HermanMathis brother firm Ashcraft & Gerel, L.L.P., Ms. Parfitt was educated at Northeastern University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science, magna cum laude. She received her Masters degree from Michigan State University, again graduating magna cum laude. Ms. Parfitt earned her Juris Doctor at Hofstra University.
Over the last twenty years, Ms. Parfitt has been a member of the District of Columbia Bar and the Virginia Bar. Most recently, she has been at the forefront of the Breast Implant, Fen/Phen, Rezulin, Propulsid, PPA and Baycol litigation. She is currently a member of the Discovery Committee and Generic Expert Witness Committee for In Re: Diet Drug (Fenfluramine/Dexfenfluramine/Phentermine) Product Liability, MDL 1203, and Co-chair of the Science and Expert Committee and Discovery Committee Member for the Rezulin and Propulsid Litigation.
During her twenty years of practice, Ms. Parfitt has served in numerous leadership and committee positions for the District of Columbia Bar, Association of Trial Lawyers of America, Trial Lawyers Association of Metropolitan Washington, and the Women’s Bar Association. Specifically, she co-chaired the D.C. Bar Section on Litigation and Injury to Persons and Property.
Most recently, Ms. Parfitt was a charter member of the Reproductive Cancer Force, which provided legal assistance in the areas of breast and prostate cancer to the District of Columbia community and its court. Ms. Parfitt was also instrumental in conceiving and implementing a pro bono program with the Washington Hospital Center designed to provide free legal services to cancer patients denied insurance benefits for experimental cancer treatment.
As a member of the Women’s Bar Association, she has co-chaired its section on litigation, immigration and naturalization, and executive endorsements. As a member of the D.C. Bar she has served as a case mediator for the D.C. Superior courts.
Currently, Ms. Parfitt is on the Board of Governors for the Trial Lawyers Association of Metropolitan Washington, D.C., and the Executive Committee (president-elect) as well as a past committee member for its Women’s Trial Education Programs. She has been an active lecturer for the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, as well as numerous professional conferences on Pharmaceutical Drugs, Product Liability and Medical Negligence.
