Maury A. Herman is a senior partner of Herman, Herman, Katz & Cotlar, L.L.P., and has extensive
experience in the areas of personal injury, business and commercial law, wills, trusts and estates, professional liability, medical negligence, and complex multi-district litigation including class actions.
Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, Mr. Herman received his Juris Doctor degree from Tulane University School of Law and was admitted to the bar in 1968. He won the Moot Court Competition in 1968 and, from 1967 to 1968, clerked for Judge Luther Hall at the Louisiana Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Mr. Herman is an active member of the Louisiana State Bar Association and the
Louisiana Trial Lawyers Association. He is past Chairman of the New Orleans Central Business District Historic District and was the Chairman of the Board of Directors of a Louisiana community bank. Mr.
Herman served as a member of the Board of Trustees of WYES Television, the local Public Broadcasting Station. He was general counsel of the New Orleans Saints National Football League from 1986 through 1993. Mr. Herman is a sustaining member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, a Diplomate of
Trial Advocacy of the National College of Advocacy, and regularly serves on the faculty of the Trial Advocacy College sponsored by the National College of Advocacy.
He is a member of the Board of the National College of Advisory, the Board of Governors of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America and a member of the Executive Committee of the Louisiana Trial lawyers.
Mr. Herman is also the co-chair of the Tobacco Products Liability Group of ATLA and is a member of the Board of Governors and Executive Committee of LTLA. The firm is among 60 law firms comprising the Plaintiffs' Legal Committee of the Castano Tobacco Class Action, and Mr. Herman serves as a member of the PLC's Finance Committee, Administrative Committee, and the Public Relations Committee. Mr. Herman is also a member of the trial team representing Richard Ieyoub, Attorney General for the State of Louisiana, in Louisiana's claim against the tobacco industry. Mr. Herman has appeared as a speaker on trial practice and tobacco seminars and has authored numerous papers on these subjects.
He practices at the HermanMathis office in New Orleans, Louisiana.
